The University of Manchester Worldwide - Virtual Charity Run 2020

Alumni around the world are joining The University of Manchester Worldwide in a virtual charity run on Saturday, 19th September 2020. The charity run aims to break the Guinness World Records for the highest number of people joining a virtual run on Zoom simultaneously with alumni from around the world.

To break the world record attempt (Previous Record: 154 pax), students and alumni from all international centres will run together at different locations all over the world, from Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai and Manchester. You can run at home, in the park, on a treadmill, in the gym, or any place you prefer, all through the Zoom platform.

How to participate in Guinness World Records

The run begins at 3pm Dubai local time; to participate in Guinness World Records, you will need to login to Zoom platform 15 minutes earlier (at 2.45pm Dubai Local time) to setup for the run and to turn on your camera. When you are given the signal to start running, you will need to run for a minimum of 5 minutes along with the rest of the world to be part of history!

Connecting to Zoom is optional, but is necessary if you wish to participate in the world records attempt.

Manchester Day of Action

This run is in conjunction with Manchester Day of Action, an annual community volunteering project for Manchester alumni around the world. This year, we are addressing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals #3: Good Health and Wellbeing and #16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

Emirates Red Crescent

The run will also support Emirates Red Crescent , UAE based affiliate of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, in their public relief initiative to individuals in distress especially in the aftermath of the devastating explosion that took place in the port of Beirut, on Tuesday 4th of August 2020.

Participation in the run requires a minimum entry fee of AED10. All proceeds raised from registration will go to Emirates Red Crescent to support this initiative.

Upon receiving your registration and donation, details of the game rules and the requirements will be sent to you via email 5 days before the event.

By registering, I hereby consent:

A. To have my screen name, recording and photo to be used in the Guinness World Records attempt submission, and for the making of the video for the event.

B. To share my registration details with The University of Manchester Middle East Centre.
