More from Professor Mohamed Baguneid
Whilst I consider myself a dedicated vascular surgeon, I believe that major patient benefits come from improving the system within which clinicians’ practice. I was appointed to the role of consultant vascular surgeon in Al Ain region of Abu Dhabi Emirate 5 years ago and more recently as SEHA clinical transformation lead. As a vascular surgeon with over 27 years clinical experience, I manage the full spectrum of vascular disease.
I have undertaken many senior clinical leadership roles in the last 15 years and specifically Medical Director of a large service transformation programme in Greater Manchester in 2014 and prior to that as deputy medical director of strategy in a large university teaching hospital within the same region. I strengthened my practical experience in leadership by completing a Global Masters in Business Administration (MBA) through the University of Manchester and was awarded a MBA with merit in 2018. During the height of the current covid-19 pandemic, I put theory into practice as clinical operational lead for activation of a large covid-19 isolation facilities in Al Ain region including a 1300 bedded university accommodation, a large regional hotel and a rehab medical centre.
I consider evidence-based clinical practice integral to developing and maintaining world class services and have published over 100 articles (61 original papers and reviews) in peer reviewed journals and am editor of both the Oxford Handbook of Key Clinical Evidence and Oxford handbook of Surgical Guidelines.
